ABOUT TONYA ALLEN >
THE STORY > In early 2007 Tonya completed her first 5k race & from there immediately set her sights on triathlon & the ultimate goal of completing an Ironman. She became inspired by seeing Dick Hoyt compete in an Ironman while pulling & pushing his disabled son during the entire race. Coming from a volleyball background, Tonya had little experience in swimming & cycling but was very eager & driven to learn. She primarily raced sprint distance triathlon her first year & then graduated up in distance with the help of her coach Rich Allen. Rich coached Tonya towards her Ironman goal and in 2010 she completed her first Ironman. She is now a 2x Ironman Finisher & is continuing to add more long distance races to her schedule each year.
While being coached by Rich, they both realized the importance of having a specialist swim coach at RichardAllenFitness, so at the start of 2010, Tonya trained diligently to earn several swim coaching certifications & began coaching. She is a fully certified USA Swimming swim coach &ASCA swim stroke technician. Tonya is currently working towards her ASCA Level 2 coaching certification as well as a certification in swim biomechanics & open water skills. She is the specialist swim coach on RnR Tri Camps & Tri Training Days for RichardAllenFitness. Tonya has also coached a swim team and swim stroke clinics at the YMCA. She lives in North Carolina, US & Yorkshire, UK with her husband Rich. Follow Tonya's Ironman training & racing on twitter & check out her blog & REV3 sponsor links.
