Having retired at the end of 2006 Richard is now back in training to return to professional racing in 2009 with the single motivating factor of raising money and awareness for his chosen charity.
There have been several people close to Richard who have recently died from cancer. This includes an inspirational woman called Dorothy Lee who Richard was honored to know well. More recently Richard had the pleasure of meeting a girl called Ellis. She was an amazing teenager who you wouldn't even know was battling cancer. So positive and brave! She passed away recently and it really made Richard think how lucky he was and that he still had the ability to do something positive through triathlon.
Cancer research and care is such a huge issue that it is impossible to help in every area so Richard will be doing what he can for the Ellis Clark Foundation Trust which will be raising money and awareness for cancer research and care in children and young adults. During 2009 Richard will be giving away the ultimate triathlon prize package to raise awareness for the ECFT. One lucky person will win Richard's entire race equipment from 2009. This prize has the full support of all Richard's sponsors and will include his race bike, helmet, bike shoes, eyewear, wetsuit, goggles, running shoes, heart rate monitor, race clothing and nutrition (With the exception of the race bike all the equipment will be new and sized to the winner)! The competition is simple to enter- Email Richard telling him why your deserve to win this amazing prize.
On top of the prize draw Richard will be donating a percentage of his prize money to the charity and will be participating in other fundraising events.
